Kai Owen reads this exclusive audio adventure.
It's not easy being Rhys Williams. You're married to the sexiest woman in Torchwood. She saves the world for a living, you move Lorries round in a timely fashion.
Suddenly, you've got a mystery of your own. Oh, it starts off being about missing fridges. But it leads to a midnight train pulling into an abandoned platform at Cardiff Station. What is the mysterious cargo that Rhys is unloading from the train? Where's it going? And what can be behind it?
Rhys Williams is going to get to the bottom of it. All by him, thank you very much. Soon Captain Jack is missing, his wife's dead, and it's up to Rhys to try and put everything right. And find those fridges...Written specially for audio by James Goss, 'Ghost Train' is set before the 'Children of Earth' TV story and features Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones, as played by John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd in the hit series from BBC Television. It is read by Kai Owen, who plays Rhys.
Torchwood Ghost Train (Audible Audio Edition) James Goss Kai Owen BBC Worldwide Limited Books
I don't really hold James Goss' works on a high pedestal. I've rather disliked all of them. And then comes along 'Ghost Train'. I don't know why but this one was phenomenal.'Ghost Train' is in Rhys Williams' point of view (1st person mind you) and has the added bonus of being narrated by Kai Owen who is the actor who plays Rhys on the show. That's just brilliant. We get to see everything from Rhys' perspective and maybe I am a sucker for that kind of stuff.
Goss is very good at mentioning a lot of past references in Doctor Who and Torchwood in the novel. For example that Rhys loves cooking and the ATMOS disaster with cars.
This is a very timey-whimey novel. A lot is out of order but the thing is it makes sense because you go through it all with Rhys and everything eventually falls into place in due time.
I know I am not really saying anything but I don't really want to give anything away.
Just trust me, it's so, so good.
I recommend this to Torchwood fans. And if you have only seen Miracle Day, give this a try.

Torchwood Ghost Train (Audible Audio Edition) James Goss Kai Owen BBC Worldwide Limited Books Reviews
They are still trying to sell Torchwood audio books by including Ianto in them, but he is not even a main focus of the story. The main focus is on Gwen, either actively or passively (like with this book where Rhys is trying to find out what happened to Gwen). Not worth the money either, you can read excellent fan fiction for free anywhere on the internet.
I really enjoyed this, its one of the best Torchwood stories I've come across. Parts of it are very funny. Great insight into Rhys as he tries to unravel the mystery of the disappearing fridges, and how that fits into several crisis that TW are dealing with. But its not just for Rhys fans (although he is the main character), all the TW cast (Gwen, Jack and Ianto), have important parts in the story (to say more about where in the story the others mainly appear would be spoilery).
If anyone is missing the 'fun' side of TW, then this is well worthwhile getting.
I've been working my way through the Torchwood audios lately, and I'll confess that I put this one off for one of the last, just because Kai Owen isn't in the main cast and so I wasn't as interested. That was a mistake.
Owen is a REALLY GOOD reader. His impressions of the rest of the cast are dead accurate, especially of Gwen and Ianto. Between his skills and that of author James Goss, the characters really come alive - this feels just like an actual Torchwood episode, if it were shot from Rhys's point of view. It's hilarious, and exciting, and moving.
This is my favorite of the Torchwood Audios to date, and I will definitely be looking extra hard at anything read by Kai Owen or written by James Goss.
Ghost Train is one of the two new Torchwood audio books released last month. Set prior to Children of Earth but after the end of Season Two, Ghost Train has a fun twist it's told first-person from Rhys' perspective and narrated by actor Kai Owen. The idea works quite well and makes for a fun book, as Rhys fits well as a slightly comic "everyman" in contrast to Torchwood's high heroics. The story starts with Rhys discovering that several refrigerators have disappeared while being delivered by the haulage company he works for. Gwen is busy dealing with near-apocalyptic conditions in Cardiff, so Rhys decides to investigate by himself and stumbles upon an obsolete-looking train making a stop at a platform that has been out of use for decades. From there, we have aliens, doppelganger assassins, interstellar travel, time-jumps, and all the hallmarks of the Doctor Who universe of which Torchwood is a part. The other characters--Gwen, Ianto, and Captain Jack--have some nice moments and clever dialogue, making for a fast-moving story with a good premise. The only thing to be aware of is that Ghost Train is fairly short just over two hours long. Still, it's more entertaining than the other Torchwood audio books available, and worth picking up.
I don't really hold James Goss' works on a high pedestal. I've rather disliked all of them. And then comes along 'Ghost Train'. I don't know why but this one was phenomenal.
